Preparing to fly to the summer capital, Srinagar, and meet her husband, Ruby Sharma feels that it is the dream of every civil servant to attain this position. “Today is the most memorable day of our life,” she said.

She believes that it is because of her husband’s parents that BR Sharma has reached to this position. “It is all because of the grooming by his parents, especially his father’s teachings, that Sharma has been able to achieve success in his life,” Ruby Sharma added.

Remembering old days when BR Sharma was transferred to Kupwara district as Deputy Commissioner, she said, “The day when we reached Kupwara in 1994, our house attacked with bullets in the night. All windowpanes were broken and it was terrible. But after that it was a smooth stay in that district and we got a lot of support from people.”

During 22 years of their married life, Ruby Sharma, who is a social worker, has offered every kind of support to her husband. “Even in worst of the times, my husband never lost hope. He is so patient that the word ‘disappointment’ never came close to him. The family has always supported him and at times when he felt that he was not able to spare a few moments for his children, both of our sons offered unconditional support to him.”

Ruby Sharma said her husband is fond of Dogri music, especially bhajans, and whenever he gets time he listen to the music. “During his initial days as DC, Kathua, he used to play badminton, but later on stopped doing so as he couldn’t spare time for it.”
