Ex-Sarpanch survives daylight attack

Former Sarpanch of Jasdev Singh Nagar was attacked by six armed assailants near Gill village this morning. The victim has been identified as Jasvir Singh, who is associated with the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).
The police have booked Manvir Singh Gill, a resident of Gill village, and his five unidentified accomplices.
Jasvir visits Alamgir village to fetch milk every morning. Today, while he was returning from Alamgir, the attackers, who were in a car, intercepted his SUV on Gill Road around 8:30 am. They fired several shots on Jasvir. He was hit in the right arm. Jasvir sped off towards his home.
The attackers chased him till Gill village. Meanwhile, Jasvir also fired two shots from his revolver at the attackers. After the retaliatory fire by Jasvir, the attackers beat a retreat.
Jasvir called up his supporters and he was rushed to the DMCH. His condition is stated to be stable.
On a complaint of Jasvir Singh, the Sadar police registered a case under section 307 of the IPC (attempt to murder) against Manvir Singh Gill, a resident of Gill village, and his five unidentified accomplices.
Gurdev Singh, SHO of the Sadar police station, said: “The condition of Jasvir is stated to be normal. We have booked the attackers and will arrest them soon”.
Jasvir had an old rivalry with Manvir Singh Gill. Earlier, Manvir had attacked Jasvir at his house.
Jasvir is close to MLA Darshan Singh Shivalik. He had fought for membership of the Zila Parishad.
