Facebook friendship with a Haryana youth landed the wife of a Jalandhar-based trader in trouble. The woman and her three-year-old son were reportedly kidnapped by the Hansi-based youth twice during the past few months.

The victims, who were allegedly held captive for nearly 20 days, were rescued by a joint team of the Punjab and Haryana police from a house in Sector 3 here yesterday.

The woman’s husband, who accompanied the police team, maintained that his wife came in contact with Sunil of Hansi town on Facebook.

“He kidnapped her about three months ago. We paid ransom to get her released. The accused kidnapped her again to force us to withdraw the earlier kidnapping case,” he stated.

Police sources, however, said the woman was being blackmailed on the basis of her obscene pictures/videos which were in the possession of Sunil.

The youth allegedly kidnapped her last month and kept her captive. She recently managed to call her husband, who gave the mobile number to the police. The police traced the location of the mobile phone to Rohtak.

The husband reached Rohtak along with a police team yesterday. His wife then sent him some pictures taken with the mobile phone handset through WhatsApp. Some local volunteers of the Road Safety Organisation were also roped in to ascertain her location on the basis of the pictures.

Finally, the joint police team reached the house in Sector 3 and got the woman and her son rescued. Sunil, however, managed to escape.
