Mansa, January 12
After failing to clear the physical test during Army recruitment drive for the second time, 19-year-old Jasvir Singh of Smao village in Mansa district committed suicide today. He consumed poison in the fields. The victim’s family cremated the body this evening. “Since Jasvir’s father Jagga Singh owned only three acres, the boy felt his future wasn’t bright. After failing to clear the Army test for the second time, he got depressed. Though his family tried to encourage him, it didn’t help,” said Sarpanch Gurtej Chahal.
He further said the boy took his mother and brother to the village gurdwara before going to the fields and committing suicide. A case has been registered. — TNS
