Rohtak, May 13
Dissatisfied with the girdawari (survey) of the damage caused to crops due to inclement weather, farmers of Aasan village in the district held a demonstration at the local mini-secretariat today.
The protesting farmers, some of whom were carrying placards seeking permission to sell their organs due to the heavy losses suffered by them, also conveyed their concerns to the district authorities.
The protesters, backed by the local chapter of the Bhartiya Kisan Union, alleged that they had been making rounds of government offices for conduct of girdawari and grant of adequate compensation, but to no avail. In the meantime, crops standing on several acres of land were destroyed by fire under suspicious circumstances.
On being apprised of the matter, the Deputy Commissioner constituted a team of officials to visit the village and take stock of the situation.
