Ferozepur, February 9
After months of protests due to the delay in its launch, the Ferozepur-Chandigarh Express (14614/14613) was today flagged off for a trial run from the Ferozepur railway station.
Though the train was formally launched by Railway Minister Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu through a centralised remote mechanism from Rail Bhawan in New Delhi, Ferozepur MP Sher Singh Ghubaya, Ferozepur City MLA Parminder Singh Pinki, besides other SAD-BJP and Congress leaders, flagged it off at Ferozepur.
Hundreds of SAD-BJP and Congress supporters resorted to thunderous sloganeering and exchanged heated arguments while trying to claim credit for the launch of the train. Naresh Chander Goyal, Divisional Rail Manager (DRM), Ferozepur Division, said the train with 10 general second class compartments would cover 237 km from Ferozepur to Chandigarh in less than five hours.
“The train will start from Ferozepur at 7 am and reach Chandigarh by 11:45 am daily. The return journey of the train from Chandigarh will start at 4.30 pm and reach Ferozepur at 9.30 pm. On the way, it will halt at Talwandi, Moga, Jagraon, Ludhiana, Samrala and Mohali stations,” he said.
