Patiala, July 29
The district authorities today removed the fish market from near the factory area following a number of complaints lodged by the local residents who had been alleging nuisance due to the sale of fish here.
The action taken by the authorities was followed by protest by shopkeepers, who raised anti-establishment slogans. They alleged that they had been doing business here for the past several years and the now the action taken would put them out of business and affect livelihood of a large number of families.
Area Municipal Councillor Harpreet Kaur and her husband Sukhwinder Pal Minta, former Municipal Councillor, had even taken up the matter with Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal during his sangat darshan programme. The Deputy Chief Minister had even asked the Patiala Municipal Corporation to initiate appropriate action in this regard. — TNS
