Abohar: A fire broke out in the second-floor workshop of a sweets shop in Sadar Bazar extension area on Thursday, causing heavy losses. Preliminary investigation indicated that the fire started from a kerosene stove. The shop had no fire-fighting equipment. Though the people found it difficult to control the blaze, they prevented a major inferno by shifting the material stocked in the vicinity away from the fire. Later, a fire tender came and doused the flames but most of the sweets — being prepared for the festival season – and the furniture and fixtures had been gutted by then. OC
