Gateway rail abolishes handling charges

To help investment and export business in the state, Gateway Rail at Inland Container Depot (ICD), Sahnewal, will not levy any terminal handling charges on export containers at their facility.

A press release of the Gateway Rail said this benefit was being provided to exporters and the same would continue till the time there was an overall improvement in export volumes in Punjab.

In a first major export initiative, Gateway Rail moved block train of Naranjan Rice Exports Pvt Ltd carrying rice in 90 racks to Mundra port (Gujarat) for connecting to designated vessels. This is the biggest quantity for export in one go.

The company’s spokesperson said this decision of non-levying of terminal handling charges (THC) would benefit exporters in Punjab and reduce transaction cost.
