Meanwhile, security has been beefed up in and around the collage after the staff and students intensified their protest against the college management.

The faculty has also been protesting non-release of their salaries for the past seven months.

The students said their exams were due for May and there have had no classes for the past two months.

It is believed that about 1,500 students, mainly enrolled in MBBS and BDS courses at the college, which is financial crisis-ridden, are likely be shifted to other medical colleges in the state.

The move follows the failure of the management of the Gian Sagar Educational and Charitable Trust — owned by family members of Nirmal Singh Bhangoo, the key accused in the Rs 45,000-crore Pearls Agrotech Corporation Limited (PACL) ponzi scam — to honour its commitment to clear its dues and liabilities of Rs100 crore.
