The Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) today demolished nearly 250 hutments at Jagatpura village, which were located within 100 metre from the boundary wall of the Mohali airport.
The action was taken following orders of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, said Sukhjit Pal Singh, GMADA additional chief administrator who was present at the spot at the time of demolition.
The demolition drive begun in the morning and lasted till 4 pm. “Some cow sheds could not be removed as the owners of illegal structures brought some court orders in this regard. After the orders, we stopped the drive,” said the official.
The drive was carried out amidst security arrangements.
Notably, a number of residents of the village had gathered at the spot two days ago when a GMADA team had reached there for razing down the illegal structures.
According to GMADA officials, more than 400 illegal structures have been identified in the airport’s vicinity.
