In what could be termed as a major relief for the aspirants and their parents, the Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32 (GMCH-32), is looking to retain 100 MBBS seats for the coming session.
Giving the information here today, Dr Atul Sachdeva, Director, GMCH-32, said every year, the MCI inspects the medical college for adequacy of infrastructure.
“The team from the MCI found certain deficiencies in the GMCH-32 when they had come for inspection in October 2015. They asked us to remove the deficiencies,” Dr Sachdeva said.
“The MCI team came for inspection again on February 26 this year and found everything in place. After that, we sent a letter to the Ministry of Health seeking 100 MBBS seats in our college,” informed Dr Sachdeva. He further said they were awaiting the ministry’s response.
Significantly, the MCI inspects the institute every year to determine the number of seats that its college should have. The number of seats, which was 50 until the 2012-13 session, was increased to 100 for the subsequent two sessions.
However, this year, the number of seats had an uncertain future after the MCI raised various objections, lack of proper hostel accommodation being the primary deficiency.
