Chandigarh, December 2
The Department of Community Medicine, GMCH 32, today conducted a number of activities for creating awareness on breastfeeding at Governtment Model Senior Secondary school (GMSSS), Sector 56.
A health education rally was also organised to educate rural residents in coordination with principal Anita Sharma, staff and students of the school.
A special drive was also initiated to involve pregnant and lactating women in a health talk. Their queries were addressed by departmental faculty and field staff.
Other activities such as poster-making competition, 'nukkad natak' and consultations were conducted and subsequently communicated with the Breastfeeding Promotion Network of India (BPNI).
Dr Meenal Madhukar Thakare, a senior lecturer from the Department of Community Medicine, who was a part of the rally, has been awarded for the 'Best Activities in Individual Category' by the World Breastfeeding Week Coordination Committee 2014.
