A service to ferry physically challenged and senior citizens in golf carts at the city railway station failed to take off today.

In a press release, the Ambala Division of the Northern Railway had yesterday announced to start the service from Friday. However, a visit to the railway station today revealed that the cart was lying idle on the platform.

When contacted, Station Superintendent TP Singh said, “We wanted to start the service today, but the driver had to be hospitalised due to some health issue. So, we could not start the service today.”

The officials earlier mentioned that the golf cart, a two-seater vehicle, will be used to transport passengers between the circulating area and platforms. The service will be provided free of cost.

However, the officials failed to explain the viability of running the vehicle across platforms in the absence of a track connecting the platform and also the clear path for movement of the vehicle on a busy and crowded platform.

Escalators remained non-functional too

Meanwhile, the escalators were also not working at the railway station today.

When asked, Station Superintendent TP Singh said he was not aware of it. He added that none of the railway passengers had lodged a complaint in this connection.
