Goons thrash shopkeeper, wife at Ghumar Mandi

Following a property dispute, some goons thrashed a shopkeeper and workers at a shop in Ghumar Mandi, one of the busiest markets of the city, here today.

The accused identified as Bhupinder Singh Mangat, Davinder Singh Mangat, Karanwinder Singh Mangat, Amarjit Singh, Dalbir Singh (all residents of Rasoolpur village) and Charan Singh, a resident of Paddi village reportedly misbehaved with the woman at the shop. The entire scene got recorded on CCTV cameras installed at the shop.

According to shop owner Sandip Arora, he bought the shop of 131 square yards in Ghumar Mandi from Jatinder Singh. He came to know that there was a dispute between Jatinder Singh and his brother Bhupinder Singh.

Bhupinder Singh was unhappy with the deal and used to threaten Sandip Arora.

When Sandip and his wife came to the shop in the morning, Bhupinder Singh along with some other goons also reached the shop around 11 am. After this, heated arguments ensued and soon it turned into a clash. The accused thrashed the shopkeeper, his wife and workers.

No one came to the rescue of the shopkeeper and his wife. Meanwhile, someone called the police. But before the police could reach, the accused managed to flee. On the complaint of Sandip Arora, the police have registered a case under sections 452, 354 323, 506, 148, 149 of the IPC against the accused.

Krishan Kumar, in charge, Ghumar Mandi police post, said: “There was a dispute over the ownership of the shop between the brothers. We had summoned them to the police post to check the documents. Instead of visiting the police post, they thrashed the shopkeeper. We have registered a case and will arrest them soon.”
