Government to promote fish farming: Haryana minister

Haryana Agriculture and Fisheries Minister OP Dhankar said the budget allocation to the Fisheries Department has been increased from Rs 5 crore to Rs 16 crore to make fisheries a profitable business. “Besides, a centre of excellence for shrimp farming in saline water on 17 acres will be set up in Jhajjar in collaboration with Vietnam,” he said.

Dhankar was addressing after inaugurating a newly constructed building of the Directorate of the Fisheries Department in Panchkula. The building has been constructed at a cost of Rs 2.28 crore. The Agriculture Minister said a project was being planned to promote fish farming in the state.

He said such type of schemes would be launched due which which fish farming could be carried out in normal as well as saline water. This year, the area under shrimp farming in saline water has been increased to 40 hectares. Dhankar said a provision of Rs 500 crore had been made under the National Agriculture Development Scheme.
