Govt to popularise Ayush treatment

The state government is committed to popularising Ayush treatment in the state by strengthening the existing ayurvedic institutions as the Indian system of medicine (ISM) is providing quality healthcare facilities to the people of the state, as per an official note here today.

According to the state spokesperson, at present 1,112 ayurvedic health centres, 32 Ayush hospitals, 14 homoeopathic health centres, 3 Unani centres and 4 Amchi clinics are providing quality treatment to the people of the state.

The state government has appointed 83 ayurvedic medical officer (AMO) and six AMOs have been promoted as senior Chikitsak. The state government is also ensuring the strengthening of the existing ayurvedic institutions.

All the functional posts in the department are being filled on priority to provide better healthcare facilities to the people. The Ayurveda Health Centre at Upper Majhetli in Kangra district has been upgraded to 10-bed Ayurvedic Hospital and eight posts of different categories have been created for this institution.

The state government is also carrying out training and extension activities to popularize this system of treatment. As many as 34 exposure visits and training camps were organised during the last three years, which has benefited 462 students and 547 farmers.

During the year 2015-16, the state government has provided general medical treatment to 43,65,587 patients, panchkarma service to 23,893 and ksharsutra facility to 19,224 patients. In addition, multi-speciality camps were organised at Pooh, Sangla and Reckong Peo by specialists of kaya-chikitsa, ortho, shalya and shalkya tantra. A medical camp was also organised during the international Kullu Dusehra. Besides, herbal medicinal plants were also exhibited during the Dusehra festival so as to make people aware of the Indian System of Medicine and medicinal value of plants.

As per the note, multi-speciality camps of specialised treatment are held in remote areas.
