Speaking with Ludhiana Tribune, she said Shiromani Akali Dal should not forget the principles and ideals on which it was founded.

The state government should make a memorial of Master Tara Singh or a prominent institution be renamed after him in recognition of his contribution.

“He was not only a founder of Shiromani Akali Dal, but was also a founding member of Sri Gurdwara Parbhandhak Committee (SGPC),” she said.

“The Shiromani Akali Dal is not doing enough to apprise the generation about the party’s history, its great role in partition and heritage as the new generation is unaware of the party’s ideals and principles, its history, how and why it was founded,” she said.

“The Shiromani Akali Dal and Congress are the two prominent old political parties of the country, but the youth in Punjab is unaware of SAD’s heritage,” she said.

Role models were being looked from outside, but there have been great stalwarts within the party to take inspiration from, she said.

Personality and ideals of Master Tara Singh had a great influence on his family. Though public figures tend to have different personalities at home and in public, but he was as upright and a staunch follower of his values at home as he was outside.

“Our family is inspired by his values and even now when I take a stand and do something commendable, people attribute it to the values of Master Tara Singh,” she said.
