In a series of awareness lectures on celebrating a safe Diwali, the Department of Plastic Surgery held lectures in various schools of the city, including DAV School, BRS, Government School, Jawaddi and Police DAV Public School, Police Lines. Dr Sanjeev Uppal, Professor and Head of Plastic Surgery, said children should set off firecrackers in open spaces and strictly under the supervision of elders. He showed the children right way of setting off different types of crackers. “Anaars” and rockets are very dangerous and children should ignite these with safety, said Dr Uppal.

Everest Public Senior Secondary School

Everest Public Senior Secondary School celebrated Diwali with great zeal on Friday. All students and class teachers decorated the classes with colours, flowers, candles and others crafts. Inter-class rangoli and candle-making competitions were conducted. Rajinder Sharma, Director of Everest Group of the Schools and Principal of Everest Public Senior Secondary School, appreciated the students for their participation. Class V and VII were declared the best decorated ones.

NSPS, Gill Park

Students of Nankana sahib Public school, Gill Park, participated in a rangoli competition. They made beautiful patterns based on floral, geometrical and environment friendly themes. Appreciating the efforts of the students, the school Principal, Harmeet Kaur Waraich, motivated the students for participating in co-curricular activities in the future.

MRIS, Ludhiana

At Manav Rachna International School, Ludhiana, it was a day full of joy and festivity. The children and school staff came dressed in ethnic wear and brought traditional food along to celebrate Diwali. Diwali decor delighted the onlookers. Shilpi Gill, Principal, Manav Rachna International School, said the little ones should refrain from setting off crackers and celebrates a green Diwali.

BCM Kindergarten

Tiny tots of BCM Kindergarten, Basant Vihar, celebrated Diwali with great zeal. Teachers did colorful rangolis and decorated the whole school with strings, diyas and candles. The Principal, Dr Vandna Shahi, administered a pledge to the students to observe a green and clean Diwali.

Festive Bonanza at DAV, Pakhowal Road

DAV School, Pakhowal Road, marked the beginning of the festive season with a bonanza of celebrations for the students. A ‘Costume Party’ was thrown for the tiny tots of the Kindergarten wing on the occasion of ‘Halloween Day’. The students guised as ghosts and witches had a gala time playing pranks, telling stories and visiting haunted attractions. The students also celebrate Diwali with equal zeal. Many students came dressed as characters from the Ramyana. A tableau was showcased which depicted the scenes from Lord Rama’s life.

Ryan International, Jamalpur

A special Assembly was organised at Ryan International School, Jamalpur, on the occasion of 50th Foundation Day of Punjab. An actor-cum-comedian, Jaswant Singh Rathor, and Music Director, Fateh Singh, graced the occasion. A cultural extravaganza was presented during the assembly. Performances by students from Class VI to VIII captivated the audience with Punjabi folk songs and dance items, highlighted the social evils such as dowry and female foeticide.

OPBMS, Mandi Gobindgarh

Students of the primary wing of Om Parkash Bansal Model School, Mandi Gobindgarh, took part in various activities such as candle and diya decoration prior to the special assembly. The stage was tastefully decorated with diyas made by the students. Students delivered speeches followed by a group dance performance. The emphasis was laid on propagating eco-friendly methods to celebrate Diwali.

Oliver House

Oliver House, Preschool and Daycare, 201-F Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, celebrated Diwali with great fervour. The school was decorated with clay lamps and floors decorated with colourful Diwali rangolis. Children were dressed up beautifully in traditional clothes. The school also organised a candle-decoration competition. The traditional sweets were distributed among children.

Ram Lal Bhasin Public School

The Montessori wing of Ram Lal Bhasin Public School celebrated Diwali with their teachers. Principal Raman Oberoi told the students about the celebrations and how these could be made eco-friendly. She also encouraged the students to celebrate every festival with the same spirit. Every house displayed their items.

Green Land Convent School

Green Land Convent School, New Subhash Nagar, organised an intra-class candle and diya-decoration competition for students of Pre-Nursery to Clas V. They displayed their talents by decorating diyas and candles with vibrant colours and decorative material. Students were shown videos to acknowledge the triumph of good over evil. The students took out a rally and raised slogans in the school campus to spread the message of a green, anti-cracker and nature friendly Diwali.

DCM Presidency School

The Green Crusaders Club of DCM Presidency School inspired the students to celebrate an eco-friendly Diwali. A special assembly was conducted to spread awareness about keeping our planet green and saving it by saying no to crackers. An anti-cracker campaign was initiated which included various activities such as a street play, rally, drawing competition, diya and candle-decoration contest, etc. Principal Nupur Nutan and Head Elementary campus Reuben Chahal wished the students a safe and prosperous Diwali.

Spring Dale Sr Secondary  

Public School

Spring Dale Sr. Sec. Public School witnessed a very gala and colourful bonanza on its premises. On this auspicious day, the school was decorated with colourful candles, lights and earthen lamps. Students prepared traditional ‘torans’ for the entrance to welcome health, wealth and prosperity. There was a grand exhibition of small decorative handmade items made by students. A rangoli competition was organised.

Childhood Kindergarten

The occasion was made very special Childhood Kindergarten, Punjab Mata Nagar, as children were taken to an orphanage where they distributed gifts and sweets to the underprivileged kids. The nuns at the orphanage blessed all children and they were taught to share with the less fortunate. The children  also took part in a “Lakshmi puja” and “bhajans”. Sweets were distributed among the children.

Bhartiya Vidya Mandir, Kitchlu Nagar

Bhartiya Vidya Mandir, Kitchlu Nagar, celebrated Diwali by organising a string of activities, including board-decoration competition themed on eco-friendly Diwali, candle and diya decoration, “bandanvar making”, slogan writing and poster making. Teachers shared with their students the detrimental effects of fireworks that consist toxic substances. Tthey advised them to celebrate eco-friendly Diwali. A special morning assembly welcomed Diwali in a musical way.

Ryan International 

School, Dugri

A diya-decoration activity was conducted for the students of Montessori I. The students decorated diyas beautifully with colours and glitters. The students of Montessori II made beautiful greeting cards for Diwali while the students of Montessori III made beautiful candles. Then students went to Khedi village where they distributed sweets, clothes and toys among poor children. Students from Class I to V made posters related to Diwali and also decorated “diyas” and candles.

Green Land Sr Secondary  

Public School

The middle wing and senior students of Green Land Sr. Sec. Public School, Jalandhar Bypass, celebrated Diwali in a very peaceful and aesthetic way. Various competitions were organised to spread the message of an eco-friendly Diwali. Students from Class VI to VII participated in a greeting card-making competition on the theme “Green Diwali, Safe Diwali” and ‘Congratulations’. A rangoli competition was organised for the students from Class IX to XI. Fine Arts students of Class XI and XII designed beautiful posters on ‘Safe Diwali’ and ‘Say No To Crackers’.

Sat Paul Mittal School

The whole school wore a festive look with “diyas” and lanterns adorning the corridors and the classrooms. The ambience of the school conveyed the message of true spirit of love, joy and compassion. A special assembly was conducted to mark this auspicious occasion. Through their emphatic speeches, students highlighted the significance of Diwali which symbolises the victory of righteousness and the lifting of spiritual darkness. A melodious bhajan was sung by the Satyans, seeking the blessings of the Almighty.

DAV, BRS Nagar

DAV, BRS Nagar, organised a Diwali exhibition-cum-sale as part of ‘School Enterprise Challenge’ where different handicraft items such as bags, footmats, baskets and wall hangings made from used jeans, dupattas were put on sale. Apart from these, decorative items such as candles, diyas and decorative “thalis” made by the students were also on display. The exhibition was inaugurated by Geeta Nagrath, Director, IIFT, Ludhiana. It was a feast for the eyes to see so many decorative pieces under one roof. 

Bal Bharati

Bal Bharatians from VIII to XII organised an awareness rally at Sarabha Nagar Market and Phase I, Dugri, in favour of a cracker-free Diwali and Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan. Jasnoor and Siya of Class VI-B explained how indispensable the festivals such as Diwali and Bhai Dooj are as they lend charm and positivity to our life. A “Nukad Natika” depicting the careless way in which children set off crackers was also staged.

Eastwood International

The Eastwood International school organised a special assembly which began with a meaningful prayer highlighting the message of Diwali and invoking God’s blessing. Students were apprised about the significance of Diwali and encouraged to celebrate an eco-friendly Diwali. The Director/ Principal, Rinku Rekhi, urged the students to take to say no to crackers as well Chinese products and contribute to the nation’s progress by buying only Indian products.

Sacred Heart Convent

Sacred Heart Convent Sr. Sec. School, New Narotam Nagar, Rattanheri Road, Khannahad, celebrated Diwali with the theme “Say No to Crackers and Yes to Lights” given by Rt. Rev. Dr. Franco Mulakkal, the Patron of the school. He also appealed the students to take the pledge of “Say no to crackers and yes to lights’ this Diwali. Several competitions, including flower arrangement, rangoli making, greeting card making and display board decoration, were held. 

MGM, Dugri

MGM Public School, Phase-I, Dugri, celebrated a green and eco-friendly Diwali. A rally was taken out by the students from Class VI to VIII. More than 500 students participated in the rally, conveying the message of a green and safe Diwali. They carried beautifully decorated placards. The motto of the rally was: “Crackers are of no use, they are just environment abuse”. The student also propagated the slogan “Be Indian Buy Indian”.
