Governor Acharya Devvrat inaugurated the Bharat Jan Sanskar Bhawan in Kufri today. The bhawan has been constructed at a cost of Rs 2 crore by the Bharat Mata Janhit Trust.
He urged the youth to shun drug addiction and take initiative to balance modernity and tradition. He said the Indian ancient scriptures and traditional literature were repositories of rich knowledge and young generation should be aware of the legacy.
Seminars should be organised in colleges and universities to acquaint the youth about the knowledge and wisdom enshrined in them, he said.
He said scholars from all countries visited India to acquire knowledge about the Vedas and many other traditional texts which contained unique teachings of sages and scholars. These precious texts covered a wide range of topics which included medicine, mathematics, astronomy, music, engineering, science, arts, politics, spirituality and basic knowledge regarding good conduct.
“A country that preserves its culture and heritage develops and makes its mark in the world. The major responsibility of preserving the rich culture and heritage lies on the shoulders of the young generation,” he said.
He said the Indian civilisation was one of the oldest in the world and the youth should take pride in it and should not follow western culture blindly.
“A balance should be maintained between the modernity and tradition, so that we move ahead with time and learn every new thing that contributes to our development and is necessary to keep pace with the present and the future,” he said.
He urged the youth to stay away from drugs and inculcate discipline, responsibility and positive thinking, so that they could actively participate in the mainstream activities. He said social evils could be eradicated only with the support of the youth.
Swamis and mahants, including Shimla BJP MLA Suresh Bhardwaj and Haridwar MLA Madan Kaushik and ADN Bajpai, Vice-Chancellor HP University, scholars from Varanasi, Haridwar and Kurukshetra, trustees and members of the Bharat Mata Janhit Trust were also present on the occasion.
