Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to India Bulat Sarsenbayev called on Governor NN Vohra at Raj Bhawan here today.
During their hour-long meeting, the Governor and the Ambassador discussed issues relating to the establishment of strong bilateral cultural, economic and defence cooperation between the two countries, said a Raj Bhawan spokesperson.
The Governor suggested to the Kazakhstan envoy to explore the possibility of early setting up a direct airlink between the Kazakh capital and Srinagar via Leh as such connectivity would promote both tourism and economic links, he added.
The Governor also suggested the usefulness of collaborative linkages between the Centre for Central Asian Studies at the University of Kashmir with a corresponding institution in Kazakhstan, with a particular focus on the study of languages.
The Governor invited the Ambassador to make a longer visit during the summer to also see the Valley, said the spokesperson.
