Uttarkashi, January 15
The ongoing Magh Mela celebrations received a boost as MLA, Gangotri, Vijay Pal Sajwan inaugurated a handicraft exhibition showcasing products of the region at Ramlila Maidan in Uttarkashi today.
The exhibition is being organised by Zila Udyog Kendra, Textile Ministry and Uttarakhand Handicrafts and Handloom Development Board. The MLA inspected various stalls put up by the weavers and handicraft sellers from the region. Sajwan said the youth of the region would gain from the exhibiton and would learn about the products being manufactured in the district by the artisans here.
He commended the efforts of the weavers for showcasing their products and said the need was to promote such weavers through various festivals in and around the country so that they are able to earn their livelihood in a much better way.
He also commended the efforts of Zila Udyog Knedra for providing the stalls to such handicraftsmen and weavers free of cost .He assured the artisans that efforts will be made to provide assistance to the handicraft industry of the region.
Managing Director, Zila Udyog Kendra, Dr MS Sajwan, said Dunda handicraft cluster, Kashipur handicraft cluster and Mangalore handicraft cluster were displaying the products manufactured by their committees in the mela stalls here. Chief development officer GS Rawat was present on the occasion.
