Kurukshetra: After a dry run for about six months, the police have started the video evidence management system to nab violators of traffic rules. SP Simardeep Singh says the system records and sends the web link of a traffic offence to the violator through an SMS. Officials said Kurukshetra had become the first district in the state to use such a technology.

During the trial period, several offenders were let off with a warning. The National Informatics Centre (NIC) is assisting the police implement the system. A team of NIC experts at the Mini-Secretariat keeps an eye on traffic violators throughout the day. A high-resolution CCTV camera has been installed at the traffic intersection point near the new bus stand on Pipli road. The SP said cameras would soon be installed at other busy points in the city. “It captures the registration number plate of the vehicles violating traffic rules. A video link of the traffic offence is then sent to the violator,” said the SP. Sources said the mobile phone numbers given during vehicle registration were being used to nab the violators.

Police plan special drive to make state ‘child beggar free’

Kurukshetra: The Haryana police has planned a special drive to help rehabilitate underprivileged children who have taken to begging or hawking for a living. SP Simardeep Singh said here that Child Welfare Committees (CWCs) in the districts would be roped in for the welfare initiative. It is being proposed after KP Singh, DGP, asked the district SPs in a recent meeting to make Haryana free  of child beggars. Also, the police teams would investigate the possibility of organised gangs behind child beggars. “No data or study was tabled at the meeting suggesting any evidence of children being forced into begging. But we want to rule out the nuisance at the ground level,” said the SP.
