A team of the Jind Health Department seized abortion equipment and expired medicines from a private clinic in Julana yesterday. As the lady doctor concerned failed to produce any registration documents, the Health Department is planning to lodge an FIR against her.

The Health Department had received a tipoff about illegal abortions in Apna Clinic, Julana. The team raided the clinic late last evening and inspected all its record.

“We have seized some abortion equipment and expired medicines from Apna Clinic. Dr Saroj Chaudhary could not produce any documents about her registration to run the clinic. Though we did not find any pregnant patient, the recovery of abortion equipment and expired medicines points towards possible termination of pregnancies” said Narender Attri, District Child and Welfare Education Officer Jind.

The raiding team also found some prescription slips for pregnant patients but the lady doctor could not produce the mandatory patient register to check the history of patients.

Members of the raiding team told The Tribune that the clinic did not have permission to work as a medico legal termination of pregnancy (MTP) centre as it had not been authorised by the Jind Civil Surgeon (CS).

The attempts to contact Dr Saroj Chaudhary were futile as her mobile phone was switched off.
