Officials of the Health Department rescued two drug addicts, including a Canadian NRI, from a private de-addiction centre located at Bhamarsi village in the Sirhind block of the district this evening.
Psychiatrist at the Fathegarh Sahib Civil Hospital Preetjot Kaur said she along with other members of the team were on a regular inspection and found that the patients were facing problems. She said the patients revealed that the centre staff tortured them.
She said the Canadian NRI had injury marks on his body and eyes. She added that the two patients were brought to the civil hospital. After initiating medico-legal formalities, SSP Jatinder Singh Khaira and the DC were asked to register a case against the centre owner. The police have started investigations in the case besides informing relatives of the drug addicts.
Harinder Singh, pharmacist of the private de-addiction centre, said the allegations leveled against their centre were baseless. He said the patients were being treated well and provided every facility. He alleged that the authorities were hatching a conspiracy in order to seal the centre.
