Over 50,000 devotees reached the Purnagiri Devi temple in Tanakpur sub-division to take part in the religious fair today. Newly-elected Champawat MLA Kailash Gehtori inaugurated the fair and chief priest Bhuwan Chandra Pandey performed the Puja rituals.

The Tourism Department has installed a biometric machine at the entry gate to keep the record of the number of pilgrims.

Meanwhile, police personnel deployed for the security of pilgrims have complained of insufficient lodging arrangements. “We have conveyed the issue of inadequate arrangements for jawans to the district administration and the Champawat Zila Panchayat,” said Ramchandra Rajguru, SP, Champawat.

MLA Kailash Gehtori said he would try his best to develop facilities at the Purnagiri Dham on the lines of the Vaishno Devi temple in Jammu. “We have instructed the Mela officer to ensure better arrangements of streetlighting and water for two days. The police have been told to make foolproof security arrangements,” he added.
