The Chinmaya Organisation for Rural Development (CORD), with its holistic programmes, has affected 55,000 participating villagers in the district.

Padma Shri Dr Kshama Metre, National Director, CORD, today said to harness human resources and enable the poor to transform their lives was CORD’s vision. “Critical healthcare issues are inextricably intertwined with the harsh reality of rural Himachal’s poverty, illiteracy and gender discrimination, all of which hinted at the formidable walls of social and economic disparities to be overcome,” she added.

She said CORD focused on the empowerment of women with more holistic and development-oriented approach and succeeded in developing various training programmes that tackled issues like healthcare and nutrition, micro-banking and income generation, rehabilitation of specially-abled children, and natural resource management.
