Medical helpline 104 came to the rescue of a pregnant woman whose funds were fraudulently taken away by someone else. The grant was sanctioned under Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY).

The Janani Suraksha Yojana is a Centrally sponsored scheme aimed at decreasing neonatal and maternal deaths by promoting institutional deliveries. This scheme integrates cash assistance with delivery and post-delivery care.

Jaspreet Kaur gave birth to a baby girl on 25 January. After one month, she, along with her husband, Jaswant Singh, went to the Community Health Centre, Malaud, to collect her cheque. But Jaspreet was shocked to find that someone had already taken her funds by forging her signatures. The person had also signed the receipt.

“I called up the helpline 104 and registered my complaint. The matter was then forwarded to the senior medical officer of the Community Health Centre, Malaud, and the Civil Surgeon, Ludhiana. Later, I was handed over the cheque at my home by an Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) worker,” said Jaswant.
