Chandigarh, June 29
As many as 3,500 pilgrims stranded at Gobind Dham have been safely evacuated and brought either to Gobind Ghat or Joshi Math with the efforts of the district administration Joshi Math, Indo-Tibetan Border Police and the state team of the National Disaster Response Force.
Senior IAS officer AS Miglani, head of the special team deputed by the Punjab Government for the evacuation of pilgrims from Gobind Ghat and Gobind Dham enroute Hemkunt Sahib, today said that all the pilgrims stuck up at Gobind Dham have been rescued and moved safely to Gobind Ghat and Joshi Math.
He said that nearly 1,500 pilgrims have been evacuated from Gobind Dham by helicopter and the remaining 2,000 have been made to cross a makeshift bridge on foot to reach Gobind Ghat.
The district administration of Joshi Math has accorded top priority to bringing back the women, children and aged persons by helicopter while the others, especially the young, were asked to return to Gobind Ghat on foot. — TNS
