The police and the Army busted a militant hideout in Kishtwar district today and recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition.
According to reports, a joint team of the Army and the police launched a search operation in the Chandali forests in Kishtwar today and recovered a large quantity of arms and ammunition hidden by militants.
The hideout busted reportedly belongs to Mohammed Amin, alias Jahangir, known surviving militant of the Chenab region. The Chandali forests have remained the stronghold of the Hizbul Mujahideen.
Reports said one AK-56, one AK-47, two 9 MM pistols, two under-barrel grenade launchers, six AK magazines, 315 rounds of AK, seven under-barrel grenade launcher grenades, nine hand grenades, two magazines of 9 MM pistol, 12 rounds of 9 MM pistol, one US-made radio set, two US-made batteries, two printers and one bipole antenna.
Security forces believed that the recovery was a major blow to the militant outfit. They said the seizure had the potential to cause large-scale casualties and damage to life and property.
The General Officer Commanding of the Delta Force complimented the troops who took part in the operation.
He said the recovery of the cache was in continuation of the sustained efforts by the Delta Force towards dismantling the militant infrastructure and support base of the remaining militants in the Chenab region.
