Hisar, February 14
Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Vijay Kumar urged Dalits of Bhagana village to cremate the body of a man placed outside the Mini-Secretariat here for four days.
The deceased, Manoj Kumar (28), had died of heart condition at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in Delhi on February 11.
Satish Kajla, leading a dharna at the Mini-Secretariat, claimed Kumar was involved in the agitation for the demands of Dalits for four years.
“In absence of proper care and continuous struggle, he fell ill and was admitted to the hospital in Delhi about two weeks ago,” he claimed.
They refused to cremate the body till the demand for adequate compensation to Kumar’s family was fulfilled. The ADC claimed the administration would help the family and take up the demand with the state government.
Bhagana Dalits have been sitting on a dharna since May 2012, alleging atrocities and boycott by Jats following a dispute over shamlat land.
