Residents of several villages adjoining the newly installed toll plaza between Hisar and Hansi towns on National Highway 10 today demanded exemption from the tax.

The toll plaza has come up near Ramayana and Mayyar villages, while other adjoining villages — Kharar, Dhanderi and Bhagana — are located close to the toll. The residents said they had to move from one village to another several times for their agriculture and other domestic works.

The toll authorities initially hinted that only Ramayana village would be exempted, but later denied the claim.

Depal village sarpanch Ashok Kumar along with sarpanches of other villages led a delegation to the toll plaza today to resolve the issue.

He said the toll officials posted at the site refused to give any concession to the villages, saying they had no directions from the higher authorities in this regard.

“It is unacceptable to us. Many villagers have to cross the road even for bringing fodder and hay for their cattle. We will meet the Deputy Commissioner on Monday,” he said.
