Jagraon, June 5

Illegal hoardings put up in various parts of Jagraon by various commercial establishments and political parties to promote their business and political programmes, respectively, continue to deface the town.

A rise has been witnessed in such illegal hoardings in the recent past, but no action has been taken against violators by the authorities of local municipal council.

Hundreds of hoardings are installed on various roads of the town, including Tehsil Road, Raikot Road, Lajpat Rai Road, Raikot Road, Sidhwan Bet Road and Malak Road among others.

Same is the situation at Jhansi Rani Chowk and Kamal Chowk, where such hoardings are a regular view.

These hoardings were also visible in large numbers on the Ludhiana-Moga highway, which obstructs the view of landmarks and signboards thus causing a lot of problems to commuters.

Sources say a majority of such hoardings are put up in an illegal manner. Besides violating norms, the illegal hoardings installed in various parts of the city are also causing a huge revenue loss to the civic body.

The authorities prefer to stay mum as most of the commercial establishments which have put on illegal hoardings enjoy good support from various leaders of the ruling party, the sources said.

Jagraon Municipal Council President Satish Kumar Pappu denied that there was any kind of political pressure to act against violators.

“A drive will be initiated soon to remove illegal hoardings. Nobody will be allowed to mar the beauty of the town by installing illegal hoardings. I assure you that a strict action will be taken against violators and nobody will be spared,” he said.
