Chandigarh, December 23

The Haryana Government has notified that December 31 will be observed as a public holiday in its offices, and other institutes, boards and corporations in the areas under the jurisdiction of the Municipal Committee, Uklana (Hisar) to enable employees to cast their votes in the elections to the civic body.

An official spokesman said December 31 wpould be observed as a holiday under Negotiable Instruments Act in the areas concerned.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
