The Haryana Assembly was adjourned within minutes of the beginning of proceedings today following the death of a minister’s son-in-law.
An emotional Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar broke down during question hour as he announced that Haryana Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma had lost his son-in-law, Dr Prashant Sharma. An obituary reference was also made over the death of INLD deputy leader Jaswinder Sandhu’s aunt.
A two-minute silence was observed following the announcement after which Khattar sought adjournment of today’s proceedings. Speaker Kanwar Pal Gujjar adjourned the House till the afternoon of March 16 and said that the business for today would be taken up when the House meets on Monday.
Earlier, Sharma was replying to a question during question hour when he received a message and left immediately. The CM followed him out after which the Speaker also left. Khattar and the Speaker returned only to announce and adjourn the House.
Later, Leader of Opposition Abhay Chautala and Congress Legislature Party leader Kiran Choudhry expressed their condolences to the bereaved minister, but the decision to adjourn the House did not go down well with the Opposition. They maintained that the House is usually adjourned in the case of a sitting member’s death.
CM, Vij attend funeral
Narnaul: Dr Prashant Sharma (45), Haryana Education and Tourism Minister Ram Bilas Sharma's son-in-law, died after a brief illness at Paras Hospital in Gurgaon, on Thursday night.
Prashant, a resident of Narnaul, had been undergoing treatment in the hospital for brain tumour. He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter. A paediatrician, he was running Chand Hospital in Narnaul.
Prashant's funeral in Narnaul was attended by Chief Minister Manohal Lal Khattar, Health Minister Anil Vij and Cooperative Minister Vikram Yadav along with a large number of people.
