Rajeev Vashisht, a Mohali resident, said, “I had to call a friend especially to the mall to pay for our food bill through a debit card. Even after repeated requests, the food court employees refused to accept the scrapped notes.” Even in Big Bazaar, people were informed at the entrance that they would have to pay through credit/ debit cards or through Rs 100 currency notes.Owners of these eateries say that they are just complying with the Prime Minister’s order and are encouraging people to use debit/ credit cards if they have not obtained the latest currency notes yet. Showroom owners in the mall say that they are experiencing record low sales for the second day in a row.
