IMA launches campaign against noise pollution

To sensitise residents about the ill effects of noise pollution on human health, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has started a new campaign named National Initiative for Safe Sound.
The Patiala branch of the association under President Rakesh Arora, Secretary Chander Mohni Kansal and coordinator DS Bhullar started the campaign by involving the residents and over 300 medical students who took pledge on the first day to make Patiala a city free from noise pollution, make a peaceful society and create an atmosphere with minimum health hazards arising from noise pollution. They also pledged to abide by the law related to noise pollution.
The IMA leaders said they would keep drawing the attention of residents towards adverse effects of noise and unnecessary honking on roads, which was now very much prevalent all over in the country.
The common health hazards of noise pollution include temporary or permanent hearing loss, ringing and pain in ears, headache, giddiness, anxiety, stress, irritability, anger spells, memory and sleep loss, conversation and learning difficulties, aggravation of hypertension, diabetes and other heart ailments. The people must know about the safe limits of sound as per the Noise Pollution Rules, say experts.
