Security measures have been stepped up ahead of the passing-out parade of the Indian Military Academy (IMA) in Dehradun on June 11.

The Dehradun police have deployed additional city police and traffic police personnel around the IMA to ensure that the parade passes off smoothly.

The city police have made elaborate traffic diversion plans to decongest traffic at Ballupur crossing, Balliwala crossing, Chakrata road, Premnagar, Panditwari, GMS Road and Canal Road. The police have already started a verification drive in the areas adjoining the IMA to round up suspected individuals.

Dehradun SSP Sadanand Datte said additional police force had been deployed to avoid any untoward incident during the parade of the passing out course. He said SHOs had been instructed to conduct checking drive at hotels and inns strictly to arrest any suspected individual.

Quick response teams (QRTs) had been deployed near the IMA and the Local Intelligence Unit (LIU) had been activated to nab any suspected individual, he said.

The IMA administration said no person would be allowed to enter the Academy campus without having proper security passes which had been issued by the Academy. The relatives of Gentleman Cadets must compulsorily carry photo identity cards with them to be able to attend the passing out parade, Datte added.

Meanwhile, a suspected individual who was arrested at Panditwari on Monday night has been sent to the jail. The man, identified as Mobin, a resident of Lakhimpurkhiri in Uttar Pradesh, was caught with three mobile phone SIM cards and a fake identity card.
