Patiala, March 6
In a bid to boost industrialisation in the state, the Punjab Cabinet has approved the proposal of Punjab State Industries Export Corporation (PSIEC) to set up a new industrial focal point at Pabra and Takhtu Majra villages near Rajpura in Patiala district.
This decision was taken by the Punjab Cabinet during its meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal recently.
A spokesperson for the Chief Minister’s Office said the State Rural Development and Panchayats Department had given its approval for the transfer of around 200 acres at Pabra village and Takhtu Majra village in the district to the PSIEC for setting up the industrial focal point as per the price determined by the committee headed by the Deputy Commissioner concerned.
The new focal point to be established in near future would be adequately equipped with modern basic amenities.
It may be recalled that the PSIEC has been developing industrial focal points to facilitate industrial development in Punjab having a network of 42 focal points across the state.
During the Progressive Punjab Investment Summit held in 2013 and 2015, prospective entrepreneurs had strongly impressed upon the state government to provide additional availability of land to set up their ventures.
Accordingly, the state government had directed the PSIEC for the creation of land bank.
Moreover, there was a strong demand from the industry for setting up of a new industrial area around as Rajpura has long-term potential because of its proximity to Chandigarh Rail Head and Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor. The proposed area is envisaged to be a part of Amritsar-Kolkata Corridor and setting up the industrial focal point would give impetus to industrialisation in the state.
