Chief Parliamentary Secretary (CPS) Dr Kamal Gupta today ordered an inquiry into non-deposit of premium of Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) even as receipt of payment of Rs 330 was issued in this regard. Due to this, the benefit of the insurance scheme was denied to the beneficiary after his wife’s death in November 2015.

Anand, a resident of Bras village, informed the CPS, who was chairing a district grievances redressal committee meeting held at Panchayat Bhawan, that he had got his wife registered under two insurance schemes, PMJJBY and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), in Punjab National Bank, Nissing branch, and got a receipt of Rs 330 and Rs 12 from ‘Bank Mitra’.

He said in his complaint that his wife had died in November 2015 and when he approached the bank for the claim under the schemes, he was denied the benefit on the grounds that the specified amount of Rs 330 for life insurance had not been deducted from his account.

Taking serious note on it, the CPS asked Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mandeep Brar to get the matter investigated from a senior official and take strict action against those found guilty.

As many as 12 complaints were taken up in the meeting and 11 of these were resolved.
