Haridwar, December 18
The Cricket Association of Haridwar (CAH) today urged Chief Minister Harish Rawat to announce an international cricket stadium in Haridwar also.
In a memorandum sent to Harish Rawat, Sports Minister Dinesh Agarwal and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Anurag Thakur and vice-president Rajiv Shukla, the CAH said Haridwar, being a world-renowned tourist city, needed to have a cricketing stadium of global standards.
The memorandum read that as Dehradun now had Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium and today, with the inauguration of Indira Gandhi Cricket Stadium at Gaulapaur, Haldwani, the next stadium of such global standards should be build in Haridwar.
The Cricket Association of Haridwar president Neeraj Kumar said talented player Rishabh Pant hails from Haridwar and there were dozens of similar talented budding players, who, owing to low standard cricket ground, faced inconvenience in honing their cricketing skills.
CAH office-bearers Inder Mohan Barthwal, Amol, P Tomar, Pranab Mukherjee, Shubham Kumar, Dheeraj Sharma, Dhairya Sodhi, Utkarsh Rawat, Shivam Khurana, Shivam Saini, Rohit, Nirvan, Ratan, Dev Joshi, Aman Kumar, Reena Yadav, Mohammed Sami, Mukesh, Mahesh and Prashant Pandey said having a cricket stadium would surely provide a platform to the young players to make a career in cricket.
