Fazilka, April 11
Former senior Congress leader Jagmeet Singh Brar visited Fazilka and met the kin of two pesticide dealer brothers Sudhir Kumar Setia (32) and Anil Kumar Setia (30), who had committed suicide by jumping into the Gang Canal last week due to debt. He expressed solidarity with their wives and parents.
Former MP Brar announced to pay an amount of Rs 25,000 to each of the families of the deceased from the Kisan-Garib Rahat Fund launched by Brar for helping the kin of farmers and others who commit suicide due to financial constraints. He assured the parents of the deceased that he would request the Chief Secretary of Punjab to provide jobs to their daughter-in-laws as anganwari workers.
Flaying ruling party leaders, Brar said it was a matter of concern that none visited the aggrieved family. Sudhir and Anil Kumar had a business of pesticides in Tahliwala Bodla village and were facing a financial crunch as they had reportedly sold the pesticides to farmers directly. A majority of the farmers reportedly did not pay for the purchased pesticides due to crop failure. — OC
