Jammu gears up to welcome Amarnath shrine pilgrims

The city of temples has started gearing up to receive Amarnath pilgrims with major facelift being given it.

The Yatri Bhawan at Bhagwati Nagar has also received the attention of the administration. A spiritual ambiance has gripped Jammu ahead of the 59-day Amarnath yatra, which will commence from July 2 on the auspicious day of Purshotam Purnima as per the Hindu calendar and will conclude on August 29 on Shravan Purnima (Raksha Bandhan).

Sadhus have started coming to the city to get registration for the yatra and the administration has arranged their stay in different religious buildings and community halls. Some religious organisations have also started langar facility at these building, where sadhus are staying. The Yatri Niwas at Bagwati Nagar has been made part of the annual feature of the Amarnath yatra and subsequent security arrangements have also been made in and around the Yatri Niwas, the first base camp of the yatra from where the pilgrimage starts. The administration had already set the deadline of June 27 for all arrangements to be done.

Simrandeep Singh, Deputy Commissioner (DC), Jammu, said, “All arrangements have been made. A few final touches are to be given, which will be done by tomorrow. We have renovated the Yatri Niwas. Sheds for langars and security personnel have been installed. Water and electricity facilities have been ensured and other municipal issues have been taken into consideration.”

He said arrangements for sadhus had been made at Ram Mandir and Geeta Bhawan. “The administration is committed to give all facilities to the pilgrims of the Amarnath yatra at Jammu and we are on the job to welcome pilgrims from all over the country in the city of temples,” he added.

Five counters will also be started from June 29 at Vaishnavi Dham, Saryswati Dham, Ram Mandir, Geeta Bhawan and Jammu Haat for spot registration of the pilgrims.

Pamphlets containing complete information about available facilities, routes, distances, etc, have been printed and will be distributed among the arriving yatris from the Lakhanpur post onwards.
