BSP councillor Jannat Jahan Ul-Haq was allegedly assaulted by a few youths, including the son of Latika Sharma, BJP MLA from the Kalka constituency, at Hotel Bella Vista, Sector 5, Panchkula, late last night. The councillor alleged that the MLA’s son also threatened her with a pistol.
Jannat Jahan and her family had gone to attend a Sufi nite at the hotel. Jannat alleged that around 12.30 am, one of the youths, who appeared to be in his early twenties and had come to watch the Sufi nite, walked up to her, grabbed her left hand and misbehaved with her. “The youth, who was in an inebriated condition, punched her and threatened her with a pistol,” she alleged.
She alleged that the MLA’s son hit her on the hand with the butt of the pistol.
Despite repeated attempts, Kalka MLA Latika Sharma could not be contacted for comments. The councillor alleged that the Panchkula police did not arrive at the hotel for about two hours after being informed. “Earlier, the hotel staff claimed that they could not show the CCTV footage at night, and in the morning, they claimed that the CCTV camera of the particular spot where the incident took place was not working for the past two days,” Jannat alleged.
A police complaint in the matter has been made by the councillor at the Sector 5 police station. A medical examination of Jannat was conducted.
