City-based writer Jaswant Zafar describes Guru Gobind Singh as a nature lover in his new book “Mainu Eyo’n Lagya”.
In the recently released book Zafar reveals that most of the Gurdwaras in memory of Guru Gobind Singh are named after trees.
Giving factual details in a topic “Guru Gobind te Kudrat”, Zafar mentions several names of Gurdwaras, including Tahali Sahib, Jand Sahib, Falahi Sahib, where the Guru planted a tree or stayed under trees.
Jaswant Zafar, who also plays an active role in plantation drives and environmental concerns, portrays several revolutionary and literary personalities, including Guru Nanak Dev, Guru Gobind Singh, Professor Puran Singh and Professor Mohan Singh in his book.
He has also written about contemporary poets, including Ram Singh Chahal, Gurpreet, Balwinder Sandhu and Gurbhajan Gill and books written by them. Apart from this, he has also penned his experience of childhood days, education system during his time and two travelogues.
Out of his five books, it is Zafar’s second prose book. Earlier, he has written three poetry books and earned a good name and fame in Punjabi literature.
“Eminent writer Sant Singh Sekhon used to say that poets should write prose as well. I agree with him because there are several things, which being a writer you have to say, but aren’t able to express. So in this book I have collected all my articles about various personalities and various subjects. I described them as I observed them in the past several years,” Zafar said.
Touching some controversial issues, Zafar denied that Prof Mohan Singh was an atheist in the topic “Mohan Singh da Rabb”.
Zafar says his quote on God “Rabb ik Gorakh Dhanda” has been misquoted. He gave several references from his poetry that Mohan Singh was a firm believer in God.
