Pithoragarh, November 14
A week-long tri-nation traditional trade fair of Jauljibi was inaugurated by Uttarakhand Van Nigam chairperson and former Dharchula MLA Harish Dhami on Monday.
The fair, which used to be instrumental in selling goods imported from Tibet and woollen crafts, manufactured by local artisans in the bygone era, was used by government and semi-government agencies to publicise their schemes and instruments. The goods, imported from Tibet through the Indo-Tibet border trade these days, were also showcased in the fair.
The fair, organised on the bank of the Kali that divides India from Nepal, is attended by Nepalese with both banks of the river remain vibrant during the week-long fair.
According to mela officer and SDM of Dharchula, over 400 shops, including 28 from government departments, have been erected by the administration this year.
“We have made sufficient security, water, electricity, sanitation and other facilities for visitors as well as traders who have come to the fair from faroff places,” said RK Pandey, SDM of Dharchula. — OC
