Jammu, January 18
The Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI) today said it had facilitated the establishment of 4,036 units, covering 4,189 beneficiaries under the Seed Capital Fund Scheme till December-end 2015.
The information was given out at the 18th meeting of the governing body of the JKEDI held here under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary BR Sharma.
While reviewing the progress of the institute, the Chief Secretary said the focus of the JKEDI, created to increase employability and enhance entrepreneurial skills among youth of the state, required to be increased so that futuristic needs of the skilled manpower could also be met.
Director, JKEDI, MI Parray briefed the meeting about the progress and performance of the institute. He said during the financial years 2014-15 and 2015-16 (till December 31, 2015), the institute had organised 866 entrepreneurship awareness programmes, 175 entrepreneurship development programmes and 12 entrepreneurship orientation programmes.
Under the Youth Start-up Loan Scheme, the institute has facilitated the establishment of 653 enterprises between June 2012 and December 31, 2015.
The governing body meeting also reviewed the progress under the Term Loan and Education Loan Schemes of the National Minorities Development and Finance Corporation (NMDFC), Himayat Self-Employment Scheme, progress under 10 handicraft-based clusters in and around Srinagar, conduct of vocational training programmes under the NMDFC and institution of Annual Awards to the Entrepreneurs. — TNS
