Bhiwani, August 8
Bollywood actor John Abraham will visit Bhiwani in September to undergo two-month training and shooting for the biopic based on Dhronacharya awardee Capt Hawa Singh Sheoran.
Sheoran, who belonged to Umarvas village, founded the boxing academy where boxers like Vijender Singh were trained. Capt Hawa Singh Sheoran’s son Sanjay Sheoran said he had signed a contract for Re 1 with the film producers to make the biopic.
He said, “Capt Sheoran was a national heavyweight champion for 11 years and won gold medals in succession at the Asian Games Asian Games - a record that remains unbeaten.”
Sanjay said the film intends to capture the struggle and achievements of his father who served as a havaldar in the Army and how politics scuttled his chance to represent country at the Olympics in 1968 and 1972.
He said film producer Sam Fernandez along with writer Juned had spent a week at Bhiwani in March.
The movie would be shot at Capt Sheoran’s native Umarvas village, where he spent his initial days before joining the Army.
The film would also be shot in Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir and Thailand.
Nupur Sheoran, granddaughter of Capt Sheoran, said John Abraham was impressed with the family’s contribution towards promoting the sport.
“John has great height and physique which resembles my grandfather. He would do justice to the role,” she added.
