Joint team to protect Munak canal
Karnal, March 18
Amid the threat of protest by Jats, the district administration has beefed up security arrangements. A joint team of the security forces and civil officials has been constituted to keep a vigil on the Munak canal. Besides, DC J Ganesan has appointed duty magistrates to keep a watch on other canals in the districts.
SP Pankaj Nain said they had made elaborate security arrangements in the district. “The situation is peaceful, but they are ready to tackle any untoward incident,” he added.
“Munak canal is a lifeline for Delhi. So, we have deployed a joint team of the paramilitary forces, police, officials from the Irrigation Department and duty magistrate,” he said.
They also held meetings with local Jat leaders and alerted the intelligence units to keep a vigil in the district, he said.
The DC said that they had appointed duty magistrates to keep a watch on the overall situation.
Civil Surgeon was also asked to ensure medicines and ambulance at the Munak Rest House, the DC said, adding that JCB machines were also procured to remove hurdles from the embankment of the canal and roads.

Industrialists advised to remain vigilant
Faridabad: An advisory has been issued to members of various industrial associations to remain vigilant on account of the reported revival of the Jat agitation for quota. The district has over 24,000 industrial and commercial establishments. Rajiv Chawla, president of the Integrated Association of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises of India, in an email, has cautioned its members in the district and the state about the scenario emerging in the past few days.
Use of JCB machines prohibited
Sonepat: Keeping in view the use of JCB machines in damaging roads and uprooting railway tracks during the Jat agitation last month, the district administration today prohibited their use for any work without prior permission from March 18 to 27. District Magistrate KM Pandurang has also ordered suspension of internet services and imposed ban on sale of liquor under Section 144 of the CrPC from March 18 to 27. It has also been made mandatory for owners of the JCB machines to take prior permission from the concerned Sub-divisional Magistrate, tehsildar or naib tehsildar for undertaking any work. JCB machines were used to damage the Munak Canal near Sandal Kalan railway station during the Jat protests, thereby hampering water supply to Delhi.
