Jumpin Heights does 50,000 bungee jumps
Rishikesh, March 23
Jumpin Heights, the country’s highest bungee jumping platform, completed 50,000 bungee jumps in a record of sorts on Thursday.
Jumpin Heights is set up amidst the picturesque landscape of Garhwal Himalayas at Mohan Chatti village in Rishikesh. It was launched in 2010 by retired Army Captain Rahul Nigam along with his colleague Colonel Manoj Kumar. It offers bungee jumping from a height of 83 metres, the highest in the country.
Fatima Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra, who essayed the role of wrestlers Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari in the Aamir Khan-starrer movie ‘Dangal’, were also present on the occasion.
Sanya, who undertook the 50,000th jump, said initially she was scared but the whole team here helped her overcome her fear. “I was scared yesterday but when I met people here they treated me quite good. They gave me confidence to go for it and that was the reason I jumped without giving it a single thought,” Sanya said after the jump.
Fatima, who did the Giant Swing from the same platform, echoed Sanya’s words and said it was a good experience and everyone should try it. Jumpin Heights, built over the river Hyul, a tributary of the Ganga, has a professional team from New Zealand.
Commenting on the achievement, Nigam said: “We are delighted to successfully complete 50,000 jumps. At Jumpin Heights, our first jumper was a woman and it was a woman who did the 50,000th jump.
“So we loved the way women have been performing. This is not only a proud moment for us but also a great honour”. —IANS
